Ell-Saline Cruises Past Moundridge

The Ell-Saline Cardinals are 2-1 after a 36-8 win over Moundridge on Friday night in Brookville.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Cardinals managed to pick up the halftime lead in the second quarter. Justin Schmutz scored the game’s first touchdown on a 1-yard run for the 8-0 lead. The Cardinals would score again moments later on Cody Walters’ 16-yard touchdown pass to Tanner Parker to put Ell-Saline up 16-0.
Moundridge would score before halftime to cut the lead in half at 16-8.
Ell-Saline countered the late first-half score by Moundridge with Schmutz’s second touchdown of the night, this time from eight yards out, to lead 22-8 after three quarters.
The Cardinals pulled away in the fourth quarter, using a 33-yard run by Schmutz and a 25-yard run by Louie Arceo to score the game’s final two touchdowns to pick up the 36-8 win.
Schmutz rushed 18 times for 127 yards and three scores, while Arceo added 164 yards on 12 carries. Walters was 5-of-10 passing for 93 yards.
Ell-Saline is 2-1 on the season and hosts Sedgwick next week.
