Central Golf Qualifies for State

The Salina Central boys golf team is headed to next week’s Class 5A state tournament in Wichita after taking third at Monday’s regional tournament at Smoky Hill Country Club in Hays.

The Mustangs finished with a 362. Hays won the team title with a 321, while Valley Center was second at 343. Central edged Newton for the final team qualifying spot, as the Railers finished with a 365.

Brayden Neuschafer was the top finisher for Central, shooting an 84 to finish sixth. Taegan Jayne had a 91, while Matt Grammer shot a 92 and Nathan Poe had a 95 to wrap up Central’s scoring.

Salina South finished seventh as a team with a 397. Lucas Renz had a 93 to pace South, while Mitchell Roets shot a 94.
