Bombers Fall in Champions Bowl

The Salina Bombers fell behind big early, and fell short in a comeback attempt as the Wichita Wild claimed Champions Bowl I and the Champions Professional Indoor Football League championship, 47-34.
Wichita scored the first 21 points of the game before the Bombers finally got on the board on Dane Simoneau’s pass to Pelton Smalls, cutting the lead to 21-7 with 1:24 to go in the half.
Wichita would answer with another quick score, but the Bombers answered right back on a touchdown pass from Simoneau to Attrail Snipes, making it 27-14 at halftime.
In the second half, the Wild converted a long 49-yard field goal, and converted a Bomber turnover into a touchdown, pushing the lead to 37-14.
The Bombers started to rally after that. Simoneau hit Ricky Roberts for a touchdown to cut the lead to 37-21 with 1:34 left.
The Wild quickly answered with a scoring pass of their own, to make it 44-21 after three.
Simoneau would hit Roberts and Snipes for scores, cutting into the Wichita lead to make it 47-34 with 22 seconds left.
The Bombers recovered an onside kick, but turned the ball over to put an end to the game.
The Bombers finish their first season at 10-4 and CPIFL runner-up. Three of the Bombers’ four losses came to the Wild.
