Bombers Edge Sioux City

The Salina Bombers picked up a touchdown pass from Dane Simoneau to Ricky Roberts in overtime, and then held Sioux City off the board, picking up a 77-70 win over the Bandits in the Champions Professional Indoor Football League opener for both.
Sioux City led 21-18 after a quarter thanks to a pair of kickoff returns for touchdowns, including the opening kickoff of the game. After Salina took a brief 18-12 lead on an Adam Davis fumble return for a score, Sioux City took the lead again on a 1-yard plunge by Mario Melvin to go up 21-18.
In the second quarter, Sioux City took as much as a two score lead at 42-32, but the Bombers closed the half with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Simoneau to Attrail Snipes to make it 42-39 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Bombers tacked on the next two scores, picking up a safety and then going ahead on a Keithen Valentine three-yard run to lead 49-42. The two would trade scores to end the quarter, with the Bombers leading 56-49 after three on Corey Ham’s touchdown reception.
In the fourth quarter, the Bombers would build a two-score lead, going up 64-49 on Valentine’s third score of the night, and again at 70-56 on a touchdown pass from Simoneau to Roberts. However, the Bandits would score twice, tying the game on a 1-yard touchdown run by Lorenzo Brown with 1:28 left to force overtime.
Simoneau was 21-for-29 passing for 278 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. Snipes led the receivers with six catches for 84 yards and two scores. Roberts caught six passes for 76 yards and three touchdowns. Valentine had three touchdowns and 39 yards rushing on the day.
The Bombers are 1-0 and host the Bloomington Edge at the Bicentennial Center on Friday.
