The Salina Bombers picked up where they left off a week ago and cruised to an easy victory Saturday night at the Salina Bicentennial Center. In the final exhibition game of the season, the Bombers handled the Kansas Koyotes 75-8.
Salina took the early lead with a 22-yard field goal by Corey Hoover, and never looked back. Following the Hoover field goal, Meshak Williams blocked a field goal attempt by the Koyotes to get the ball back. Vernor Brooks would capitalize on the turnover with a 3-yard touchdown run to extend the Bombers lead to 10-0. That’s how the first quarter ended.
Salina would score four touchdowns in the second quarter to take control of the game. Dane Simoneau threw touchdown passes to Attrail Snipes and Demarius Washington, and also ran for a touchdown. Simoneau also completed a 2 point conversion pass to Ricky Roberts.
The defense was just as dominant as the offense in the first half. Meshak Williams had a blocked field goal, a sack, and a tackle that caused a fumble recovered by Brandon McKinney. Linebacker Isiah Barfield also had a big half, returning an interception 23 yards for a touchdown. At the half, the Bombers lead 38 – 0.
In the second half, it was more of the same.
The Bombers again scored first, on a Brandon Kelsey to Keithen Valentine 34-yard pass. A couple of minutes later the Koyotes would finally score, on a five yard touchdown run by Damien Dunning. They trailed at the end of three, 45 – 8.
The 4th quarter was all Salina, as they out scored the Koyotes 30 – 0. Keithen Valentine scored on an 11-yard run, Corey Ham scored on runs of 40-yards and 15-yards, and Kyron Hill recovered a fumble in the end zone. The final score was 75 – 8.
Salina opens regular season play next week at Sioux City.
