Things went south in a hurry for the Kansas Jayhawks.

Central Michigan outscored the Hawks 24-3 in the second quarter to build a 24-6 halftime cushion. KU cut the margin to four points in the third stanza, but the deficit was too much, losing to the Chippewas 45-27.

Offensively, quarterback Peyton Bender was a bit off. He was 32-for-62 passing for 323 yards and two interceptions. That’s an average of 5.2 yards per attempt. Tailback Dom Williams had 18 carries for 64 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

CMU gashed KU’s defense for nearly 600 total yards of total offense. CMU passed for 467 yards and five touchdowns.

Kansas looks to bounce back with its first road trip of the season on Saturday. The Jayhawks take on the Ohio Bobcats at 11:00 am. Pregame starts at 9:30 on Real Country 101.7.

On Tuesday, KU head coach David Beaty visited with media members to recap the loss and preview the upcoming showdown with Ohio.
