Sounds Like Ike

The Salina Symphony and 1st Infantry Division Band are teaming up to fill the air in Abilene with the sounds of ‘Space’ at the Eisenhower Presidential Library.

“The creation of NASA under the Eisenhower Administration is a great tie in with our ‘space theme’ this year, ” said Adrienne Allen with the Symphony.

The outdoor concert will feature songs like Magic Carpet Ride and Aquarius from the Big Red 1 and hits like Fly Me to the Moon, When You Wish Upon a Star from the Symphony.

The Symphony at Sunset Annual D-Day Commemoration Concert is held the first Saturday in June to mark and remember not only Ike’s effort in the Normandy invasion but all the soldiers and civilians who played a role in Operation Overloard.

Activities will include a kid’s tent, food, treats and drinks plus a Pop-Up Museum: a chance for history buffs to show and tell their WW II artifacts and memorabilia.

The D-Day Commemoration is Saturday, June 4th from 8am until 7pm at the Museum and Home. The 1st Infantry Division Band will play at 7pm followed by the Salina Symphony at 8:30pm

Admission is by donation.
