Small Quakes Shake South-Central Kansas

Emergency management officials in south-central Kansas say there are no reports of damage from a series of small earthquakes that shook Sumner County.

The U.S. Geological Survey says two quakes in the magnitude 3 range were centered southeast of Conway Springs. One earthquake struck just before 8 a.m. Monday, followed by another at 10:23 a.m.

KWCH-TV reports people in Wellington also felt a quake just after 11 a.m. near Medford, Oklahoma, about 40 miles away.

Erin Hauss, a manager at a Sears in Wellington, told KWCH she thought something had struck the store. Hauss didn’t know what had happened until a friend who formerly lived in California told her that earthquakes had struck.
