Shooter Scenario at KWU

Law enforcement and EMS converged on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University Tuesday morning to simulate a scenario that has become all too real across the country, an active shooter on campus.
Multiple local agencies including the Salina Fire Department, Salina Police Department, and Saline County EMS all participated in an active shooter drill. Students in KWU’s Emergency Management and Criminal Justice programs were also part of the event.
Students were in full makeup replicating their injuries.
As part of the scenario, a gunman entered the student activities center and made his way upstairs into a classroom, shooting people along the way. Before all was said and done, over a dozen people were shot.
Once police secured the scene, the injured were triaged in Muir Gymnasium and then transported to Salina Regional Health Center.
Salina Regional Health Center participates in mass casualty drills like this a couple of times per year for accreditation purposes, as well as to train staff should a real disaster occur.
