Sedgwick County judge faces complaints

The presiding juvenile court judge in Sedgwick County faces complaints about inappropriate behavior and alleged bias.

The Wichita Eagle reports the Commission on Judicial Qualifications has filed a “Notice of Formal Proceedings” concerning Judge Timothy Henderson. The notice says Henderson faces three complaints, including allegations that he harassed women staff in the District Attorney’s office with  inappropriate and offensive comments. Another complaint accuses Henderson of emailing biased comments about a Wichita lawyer to the state Department for Children and Families.

In an emailed statement Friday, Henderson said he denies the allegations, which he says are politically motivated. He also questions why the complaints are surfacing at a time when he’s been changing  juvenile court proceedings.

Henderson could face a public hearing on the complaints as soon as next month.
