Seatbelt Use Rising at SES

A safety program is helping students at Southeast of Saline to remember to buckle up.

The S.A.F.E. (Seatbelts are for everyone) program has been in place at SES with the help of the Saline County Sheriff’s Office since September of 2010.

School Resource Officer, Deputy Linda Martinez says the use of seatbelts by  SES students has continued to climb with each passing year since the start of this program.

SES did their first baseline survey in the fall of 2010.  SES student drivers and passengers began the year with 70% student seat belt use and ended the school year  in May 2011 with 84%.

The SES  May 1, 2014 survey revealed that 97.9% of student drivers are wearing their seatbelts.

Martinez says the increase of seatbelt use is up nearly 28 percent.
