Scam Targets Trucking Companies

A local trucking firm is conned out of $2,500.

According to Detective Jim Feldman with Salina Police, someone posing as an employee from a legitimate truck service company in Madison, Georgia called Great Plains Trucking Company in Salina to request payment.

Detective Feldman tells KSAL News that the scammer apparently has knowledge of how electronic funds are sent and received at the Pilot Travel Center in Madison – and told Great Plains they needed to pay for service rendered in mid-October.

Staff at Great Plains Trucking sent three electronic checks to the scammer who then altered the checks and cashed them.

Georgia State Police are warning trucking firms around the country that this has become a common scam.
