Scam Sweepstakes

A Saline County couple receives a suspicious letter in the mail.

Captain Roger Soldan with the Saline County Sheriff’s Office tells KSAL News that an elderly couple contacted authorities after they read a bogus Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes letter on April 2nd.

The letter declared they had won $2.5 million dollars and should deposit a $6,870 check into their bank account – then send back $5,900 to cover the cost of fees associated with winning.

The two contacted the Sheriff’s Office after their bank told them the check was a fake.
