Scam Averted

A Salina man contacts police after becoming suspicious of an employment opportunity on Craigslist.

Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that the 32-year old man responded to an ad on the website to use his car as a billboard for Medisys Health Network, a company based in Jamaica, New York.

Police say he received a UPS packet on Tuesday with instructions to deposit a check for $1,500 in his bank account, keep $400 for himself and use the remaining funds to have his vehicle wrapped with the Medisys logo.

The man called Medisys to discover they were not contracting work in Salina and that the check was fraudulant.

Captain Sweeney says the man’s follow up with the company saved him from becoming a victim of cyber crime.
