Saline County Inks Deal to House Juvenile Offenders in Junction City

Saline County enters into an agreement to house juvenile offenders in Junction City.

The Saline County Commission Tuesday entered into an inter-local agreement with the North Central Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Junction City.

In becoming a member in the program, Saline County must pay a $10,000 fee, which all counties have paid in the past for the initial operation of the facility.

The cost of housing juvenile offenders in June of 2013 will be $33,716.16. The cost for housing in the third and fourth quarters will be $101,249.74 per quarter. The total cost for 2013 will be $246,215.64.

Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski closed the juvenile detention center in late April, citing safety concerns for both inmates and staff. He said that the move was prompted by overcrowding, and a need for additional staff to keep conditions safe.
