Saline County Alllowing Concealed Guns In Some Buildings

KSAL Staff - October 15, 2013 2:32 pm

A law taking effect Monday allows people with concealed-carry permits to bring their guns into public buildings.

Concealed guns are being allowed in a couple of Saline County buildings. A couple of buildings are no longer exempt from conceal carry laws.

Saline County Commissioners are electing to allow concealed weapons in the road and bridge department buildings at 3424 N. Airport Road and at the livestock and expo buildings in Kenwood Park.

Buildings where concealed guns are allowed include the 4-H Building, Kenwood Hall, Ag Hall, and Tri Rivers Stadium.

The buildings had previously been temporarily exempted from the Personal and Family Protection Act, which became law July 1st.

The new law allows concealed weapons in public buildings that do not have “adequate security”. Generally, “adequate security” means airport-type electronic security equipment, and security staff.

Cities and counties can exempt their buildings from the new law for six months.

That’s what we need on the fair grounds people carrying guns. What was the vote on this?

Good point. There have been only a couple of instances of shots fired one at some people at the fair years ago and the other at a mexican event in the rest room. Do not believe we need to allow guns where usually there are many children attending events. What were these commissioners smoking?

Then they wonder why kids and innocent people get shoot. I am against gun control but you got to draw the line somewhere where people can take guns into areas strapped to their butts. The fairgrounds is not a place for this to happen.
