Salina’s Dog Park is Open

Ready for two acres of doggone fun?

Salina’s newest park facility, Barkley Park will officially open up for dogs and their owners with a celebration on Saturday, August 20th at 3pm.

“We went ahead and took the padlocks off a couple of days early, because there was a lot of people trying to use the space and it was safe and functional – so you know what have at it,” said Vanessa Cowie, Animal Services Manager at the Salina Animal Shelter.

“We’ve waited two years for this let’s get in a couple days early.”

The spacious park, located just south of Dean Evans Stadium on Markley Road boasts three fenced in areas with benches, dog water fountains and waste bag dispensers.

During Saturday’s grand opening, animal control officers will review park rules, and volunteers will interact with the public to encourage safe, fun use of the space. Goody bags and bottled water will be distributed, and the Salina Animal Shelter van will be on site to showcase its new wrap.

Like other Salina Public Parks, Barkley Park is open 7 days a week, and closed overnights from midnight to 5am.
