A group of Salina radio stations are under new ownership.
Alpha Media of Portland, Oregon, have closed the purchase of radio stations from Morris Communications. The Morris purchase includes thirty-six radio stations located within the following markets; Topeka, KS; Salina, KS; Amarillo, TX; Palm Springs, CA; Anchorage, AK; Wasilla, AK; Grays Harbor-Hoquiam, WA and Wenatchee-Columbia River, WA.
Among the radio stations in the deal are the six former Salina Media Group of stations including News Radio 1150 KSAL-AM, FM 104.9 KSAL-FM, Y 93.7 KYEZ, AM 1560 KABI, Sunny 102.5 KBLS, and Oldies 98.5. The radio station group, now known as Alpha Media Salina / Manhattan will continue to be locally staffed and operated.
General Manager Bob Protzman says that the change will be good for the radio stations, and the community. “It has always been our goal to be live and local, and live and local is a baseline principle for Alpha Media.” He added “Alpha will provide us with multiple resources that we never would have had before; for things like on-air contesting, and for our advertising staff, who will truly become market consultants and not just sales people.”
Chairman of Alpha Media, Larry Wilson commented on the acquisition, “I have enjoyed getting to know Mr. Morris and am thrilled to be adding stations that have been in the hands of such a successful and influential team. We look forward to expanding our Alpha family.”
Along with the Morris deal, Alpha Media is currently in the process of acquiring more radio stations as well. Upon the successful completion of all pending transactions, Alpha Media will own 252 radio stations within 54 markets across the United States covering all formats including Top 40, Adult Contemporary, Spanish, Urban, News Talk, Sports, Rock, Country and more. In addition to the radio stations, Alpha Media owns the intimate performance venues, Skype Live Studio in Portland, Oregon and Alamo Lounge in San Antonio, Texas.
