Salina Child Wins National Fishing Contest

A Salina child has won a national fishing contest. 6-year-old Noah Rupert, a 1st grade student at Huesner Elementary School, is the winner of Fishing’s Future’s Catch/Photo/ Release contest.
The contest, which was designed to urge families to spend time together fishing, is not complicated. It was open to kids 16 and younger. All they had to do to enter was catch fish, photograph it, release it, and write a short essay about their fishing experience.
Back in June, the photos, and essays, were posted on Fishing’s Future’s Facebook social media page for voting. Noah’s photo, and story, made it to the finals of the competition.
The top 3 participants with the most votes and the end of the day on the Friday of Labor Day Weekend receive the grand prizes.
After all of the votes were tabulated, Noah was the runaway winner. The top 3 winners are:
- 1st place with 1036 votes Noah Rupert Salina, KS
- 2nd Place with 459 votes DaNae Estabine Olathe, KS
- 3rd Place with 393 votes Nikki Naze from Algoma, WI
Noah wins a week-long, vacation at beautiful Schlitterbahn Waterpark & Resort on South Padre Island, Texas, for a family of four, airfare courtesy of South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Bureau. Grand prize package will also include Black Dragon Pirate Ship cruise, a guided shark fishing excursion and much more.! Airfare, hotel and activity expenses covered; food & drink not included, valued at $9,130.
DaNae receives a 2015 Tracker Topper 1436 boat and trailer courtesy of the Tracker Marine Group, valued at $2,000.00.
Nikki receives a Humminbird Helix GPS Sonar and Old Town Vapor 12 Angler kayak with paddle and PFD, valued at $1,250.
