Sacred Heart Boys Blow by Bulldawgs, Girls Lose Late

The Sacred Heart boys’ basketball team competed in the second day of the Chapman Classic and took on The Rossville Dawgs, they were able to get a 56-35.

The Knights got off to a blazing start rattle off baskets to start the game and had a 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was more of the same, stellar defense leading to turnovers, Rossville ended with 19, and the Knights knocking down buckets.

They had a commanding 36-20 lead at the half. Lead by Caleb Jordan and Charlie Skidmore.

The third quarter, the Knights continued their dominance on the defensive end and efficiency on the offensive end taking a 42-27 lead ending the third quarter.

The game ended with a running clock midway through the fourth and final quarter where the Knights came out on top 56-35.

Skidmore ended with five triples on the night and 21 points to lead the way, while Jordan ended with 16.

ROSSVILLE 43, SACRED HEART 41

The Sacred Heart Girls’ basketball team came up just short of a win against the Rossville Lady Dawgs in the second day of the Chapman Classic falling 43-41.

Coach Arnold Schmidtberger said “this is a great game to learn from and get to playing consistently”.

The Lady Knights got off to a good start in the game and had a lead for the most part of the first half, minus the three minute lull for both teams in the first quarter when the game was 5-4 in favor of Rossville.

The Lady Knights would have a 22-15 lead at the end of the first half with contributions from everyone on the floor.

The second half moved very quickly with both teams getting their fair share of buckets and at the end of the third quarter it was tied 31-31.

The game remained close for the entire fourth quarter until Rossville took a 39-33 lead with just over 2:00 on the clock.

The Knights would get a huge triple from Sophomore Ally Cochran with just under 1:30 to go in the game. On the following possession, sophomore, Hanne Gotz made a clutch three from the top of the key to tie it up with 1:00 to go in the game at 39 all.

On the following possession Caile Hill would make a bucket and give Rossville a two-point lead with :30 to go, 41-39. Sophomore, Amber Palen would make a two-point bucket to tie it up with :14 to go.

Rossville would then make two free throws and take the lead back just under :10 Seconds to go. Ally Cochran came up just shy of the game winner as time expired and the Knights fall 41-43.
