Rural Vista Girl’s End Historic Season in State Tournament

Mid way through the first quarter, it looked like the Rural Vista Lady Heat were going to challenge the number two seed, Coldwater-South Central, in the quarterfinals of the 1A DI Girl’s State Basketball Tournament at Hays’ Gross Memorial Coliseum.
The Heat led 5-4 after a Lauren Campuzano triple.
It was the last lead that Rural Vista would have.
South Central used a 22-point first quarter to spark their way to a 62-43 victory, ending the season for Rural Vista.
The Timberwolves were led in the first quarter by Rylee Alexander, who knotched 10 of her 17 points in the period.
Rural Vista, trailing by 13 at halftime, tried to mount a 2nd half rally; however, the Timberwolves and Bri Rutherford were too much in the second half.
Rutherford scored 23 points to lead the way for South Central, while Alexander and Jordyn Jellison both finished in double-figures.
The Lady Heat were led by Campuzano with 21 points, however, she was the only Rural Vista scorer in double-figures.
Hannah Riedy added in seven points for the Heat.
This was the first ever state tournament game for Rural Vista’s girl’s basketball program. The co-op of Hope and White City High Schools had never made it to state.
With the win, Coldwater-South Center (23-1) has now won 18-straight games since their only loss. The Timberwolves advance on to the 1A DI semifinals to face the winner of Olpe/Stockton.
Rural Vista finishes their season at 18-6.
