“Pump Up The Volume” Drive Pumps Up Blood Supply

Donors from around the area are “pumping up the volume” and pumping out blood.
The annual “Pump Up The Volume” blood drive is going on in Salina through Wednesday.
Red Cross Communications Program Manager Cari Merrill tells KSAL News that this blood drive is one of the most important of the year for the organization.
Donors from around the area have been coming in, rolling up their sleeves, and giving the gift of life over the past couple of days.
Kathy Leiker of Lindsborg is one of those donors. Leiker on Tuesday afternoon donated her 13th gallon of blood. It takes 104 visits to donate 13 gallons of blood.
Leiker tells KSAL News that she is simply following the lead of her father Bob Leiker, who has donated 17 gallons of blood. She hopes to one day to match that total.
With over a dozen beds, wait times are short at this year’s blood drive.
Along with donating blood, participants can also vote for thier favorite local radio station.
The third and final day of the “Pump Up The Volume” blood drive is Wednesday from 8 till 2 at the Sunrise Presbyterian Church in Salina.
