A 16-year-old Pratt High School football player has died after his car crossed the center line and struck a semitrailer in south-central Kansas.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says 16-year-old Drake Evert was killed in the crash at 6:38 a.m. on K-61 near Preston. The Wichita Eagle reports the truck driver, Robert Myerski of Pennsylvania, was taken to Pratt Regional Medical Center but his condition was unavailable.

Pratt football coach Jamie Cruce says Evert was a popular student who was going to be the team’s quarterback this fall.

A portion of the highway was closed for several hours because of the crash, which remains under investigation.

How much do you want to bet cell phone usage was involved. The sad fact is the highway patrol will not release that information. Notice they have not released seat belt usage like they do in all accidents.

People need to quit being rude and cruel and passing judgement when a tragedy like this happens. Let the facts come forward first. How would you feel Iggy if this were your son?!

Rude and Cruel and passing judgement? Since when is it wrong to give ones opinion? Whether you wish to recognize it or not cell phone usuage causing accidents has become more serious than drinking among teens. Yes accidents do happen but many parents no longer take responsibility for the actions of their kids and you sound like you are one of them.

Was wearing seat belt according police reports…just because your beacon of news doesn’t report it doesn’t mean it wasn’t released…your hypothesis is an assumption and frankly irrelevant as well…kid from a farming family dies at 6:45 in AM in manner described there are any number of real possibilities…there are many real possibilities as well for your intellect Iggy but the need to discuss them here does not exist…everyone can assume what they want about it…I have…popular local kid dies still sucks…friends and family to mourn…

Who died and left you to tell people they cannot or what they can comment on here? I believe Iggy’s comment was no more than his view in what probably occurred. Yes there could be a whole bunch of other things such as speeding and having a blow out or another mechanical problem. Or he could have fallen asleep at the wheel. Odds are in this day an age with a teenager a cell was involved that is just the way it is now a days. Further highway patrol alway’s states seatbelt usuage so they can get government money.

If you would check Pratt’s local paper the Pratttribune.com you would get more information. I see a lot of posts on here that have no regard for life. This kid passed and the community is mourning. As far as the cell phone usage, more mid 20′s-30′s use their cell phones when driving then teens these days. Iggy some counties report a lot differently then Salina does. You should get out of Salina more often and see what Kansas is really about…..

Hey IGGY, way to often it seems you are making comments that are way out of line and that you really have no idea if they are true or not. The important part of this article was that a young man died this morning, the reason does not matter. He has parents, siblings, family and friends that today is the toughest day in their life. No need for accusations from a stranger who doesn’t have a clue. D Falcon was 100% on with thier comment also. Thought I would post some of the site guidelines for you beings appearently you have never read them and you insist on commenting on alot of articles daily……Comments must stay on topic and be respectful. Comments that are personal attacks, make unfounded accusations, or are for the purpose of “trolling” or inciting others will be removed. Offending users will have their profile suspended.

The real news story isn’t the death of the teen but the drugs and alcohol that are rampant in the Pratt USD 382 school system. Marijuana in the school, heroin and meth that the school board and administrative personnel won’t acknowledge or address. Complete lack of leadership on this issue and it leads to ‘situations like this’. This won’t be the last story like this out of Pratt in my opinion. A real investigation is needed to address it. The community is too small to do it on its own…too insular.

Iggy, as sincerely as I can possibly say, I hope you have a slow and painful death. Drake wasn’t on his phone, wasn’t doing drugs, wasn’t doing anything wrong. And if you go to literally any other source that covers the story it says he was wearing his seatbelt. I know what happened, and your insolence is pathetic. You should find a hobby that doesn’t involve foul remarks of deceased children. He was a great kid, he had so many opportunities to do such great things, and he is sorely missed throughout multiple communities he could call home.

Hey Blake and Jubby who really gives a darn about someone from Pratt to begin with? Keep this story down there and believe what you wish to believe. Bury the kid and be done with it but do not come on here harrassing people in our area that make comments. Neither of you know exactly what happened unless you were in the car with him. Good guy or bad dealth does not take a holiday as they say.
