Salina Police will be out in force over the next two weeks looking for drunk drivers, texting drivers and seat belt violations.

Police Captain Chris Trocheck tells KSAL News that beginning Monday, May 23rd through Saturday, June 4th extra officers will be on patrol city wide looking for drivers who are texting or drunk and occupants who are not buckled upĀ  as part of the 2016 S.T.E.P.(Special Traffic Enforcement Program).

The overtime for extra officers is paid for with a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Evidently the Kansas department of Transportation has a bunch of money so why is Brownback taking money from schools and not the department of transportation. We do not need to waste money on things like this as the police, sheriff and hwy patrol are already being paid to enforce all laws and there does not need to have them stepping up on seat belt laws when crime is everywhere in the state.
