Police Investigating More Shootings

Three more people report being shot with a BB gun in Salina.

Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney says that a 16-year-old male and 15-year-old female were out walking in the 3100 Block of Marcella Sunda night at around 11:00, when both were shot with what turned out to be a BB gun. The male was hit on the right forearm, the female on the right hip. Both sustained a welt, but were not seriously hurt. The reproted that they saw two black males fleeing the area after they were shot.

On Saturday afternoon at around 2:00 a 49-year-old man riding a bicycle was shot. He was riding along Crawford Street, near 9th Street, when he heard a “snapping sound”. He was struck from behind, in the left rear hip by a BB. He saw a white Astro van leave the area from which he believes the shot came from.

As reported on Monday, Saturday afternoon at around 1:30 first responders were sent to a home at 120 East Wilson to the report of a woman who had possibly been shot. The victim was a 71-year-old woman.

The woman was holding a blood-soaked towel on her right arm when first responders arrived. It was determined that the woman had been shot, with either a pellet or BB gun.

The woman was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center where she was treated for a small hole in her arm, and released.

The woman was watering her garden, standing on a front sidewalk, when she heard two shots and then felt a pain in her arm. She saw a white van leaving the area.

A few minutes later, at 1:36 in the afternoon, officers responded to another report of possible gunfire in the area. They discovered a home at 910 South 5th Street that had been hit, recovering a silver BB from siding on the home.

Sweeney says that if found, the person responsible for the shootings could face charges that include battery.
