Salina Police

A Salina Police officer is involved in a traffic accident while on patrol.

According to Captain Mike Sweeney, 52-year-old David Villanueva was driving his police unit northbound on South Ohio just before 10pm on Tuesday evening.

A 1992 Chevy S-10 pickup truck driven by 17-year-old Ray Winters of Salina was also northbound on S. Ohio and made a legal stop to turn left onto Lewis Street and was then struck from behind.

Police say the air bag deployed causing an abrasion on Officer Villanueva arm. He was checked on and okayed by medical personnel.

Captain Sweeney tells KSAL News that citations are possible and the incident is under review by the city attorney. Police say distraction played a role in the accident.

The 2010 Crown Victoria patrol car had heavy front end damage.

Citations are possible the cop should of been cited right there and then just like any no cop would have been. Lucky the cop did not kill someone.

They sure as hell better give that cop a ticket. Last year I hit someone from behind that slammed on their brakes in the middle of the road and that smug @$$ judge sat up there on his throne looking down his smug nose at me telling me I wasn’t paying attention while I was driving with his high and mighty attitude. He treated me like I had stolen money from old people and took candy from kids. I always wondered what would happen if that fat cop or that *&^%&^&$%$%$# judge ever had an accident. I guess we will find out now, wont we?
