One Caught, One Sought After Chase

A high-speed chase through Ellsworth and Russell Counties Monday evening ended with a crash on the northeast side of Russell, one person in custody and another on the loose.

According to the dispatch report and Kansas Highway Patrol trooper Ben Gardener, KHP troopers were in pursuit of a 2015 Chevy Tahoe in the westbound lane of Interstate 70 just after 10pm. The vehicle, which reached speeds in excess of 100 MPH, exited at mile marker 189 just east of Russell and continued west on Highway 40. The vehicle then turned north on 187th street before crashing at the curve near 187th and 15th streets.

32-year-old Breanna Q. S. Meeks of Arkansas was arrested and taken to county jail. A second subject fled the scene on foot into a field, but was not located after ground and air searches Monday night and early Tuesday.

If you have any information about the person’s whereabouts, you are asked to call the Russell Police Department at 483-2121.

Officers from the KHP, Russell County Sheriff’s Department and Russell Police Department all responded.
