Eugene P. “Gene” Dester, 84, passed away Saturday, August 23rd, in Enterprise. He was born April 9, 1930 in Deer Creek, Oklahoma, the son of Emil A. and Edna C. (Wieke) Dester.
Growing up in Deer Creek, Gene attended local schools, graduated from Deer Creek High School, and attended Bethel College from 1948 to 1951. From 1951 to 1953, Gene served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater stationed in Japan.
In 1954 He married Daisy I. Sawyers in Deer Creek, Oklahoma. The early years of their married life was spent in Perry, Oklahoma where he graduated from Oklahoma State University and taught VoAg. Later they moved to Kansas, Winfield, Ness City, Larned and Meade before making their home in Abilene in 1976.
Gene was the District Conservationist in Dickinson County, retiring in 1992.
He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. Gene was a member of the Abilene First United Methodist Church and Kiwanis.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, August 28th, at the Abilene First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Collins officiating.
Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 5:30 to 6:30 PM Wednesday August 27th, at the Danner Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial contributions in his name be given to the Elsie Brooks Cancer Fund. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
