Jeffrey “Rick” Weber, 66, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014. He was born in Stillwater, OK to Robert and Lou Ann (Tucker) Covert on February 27, 1948.
Rick knew God blessed him with a voice and talent that eventually led him to a 40 year career in radio, television, film and video production. He graduated from Enid High School (Enid, Oklahoma) in 1967 and the Midwestern Broadcasting School in Chicago in 1968. He joined the Army and proudly served in the Vietnam War. He was a radio disc jockey in Wilmington, N.C., and then spent many years in the cable television industry, working for Channel 2 in Enid and Salina Cable TV Channel 6 in Salina. He opened Mid America Productions in 1984 and has owned and operated that business for more than 30 years. Rick was a member of both the Kansas and the National Associations of Broadcasters.
He leaves behind Judy, his best friend and wife of 22 years; daughters, Karrie (Kip) Smythia and Kelly (Dan) Bunker, all of Lee’s Summit, MO; step-mother, Kay Covert of Walnut Creek, CA; sisters, Leslie (Rick) Weldon of Enid, OK and Robin (Ken) Maguire of Carmel, CA; and his grandchildren who he loved so much, Morgan Smythia, Riley Unruh, Madison Smythia and Reese Unruh, all of Lees Summit, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents Lou Ann Weaber, Robert Covert and step-father, Don Weaber.
“A man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much.” He will be dearly missed by his family, his many friends and his business associates.
Visitation will be 3:00-7:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 24 at Ryans Mortuary with family present from 4:00-6:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 25, at Ryans Mortuary.
Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka, KS (1-70 and Auburn Rd.)
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saline County Animal Shelter, VFW, DVACK, or the donors choice and are in care of Ryan Mortuary 137 North Eighth Street Salina KS, 67401.
