Russell Lee "Buck" Reinecker, 92, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 12:15 a.m., Tuesday, August 19th, 2014 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Sedgwick County. Buck was born in Quinter, Kansas on September 1, 1921, a son of Verna Parthena (Dungan) and Howard Lee Reinecker.

Buck attended Quinter grade school, Quinter High School, Quinter, Kansas and he graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1939. He then attended McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas for 1 1/2 years then dropped out to help the family by working for a few years. In 1943 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force and served his Country during WWII and was honorably discharged in May of 1946. He returned to McPherson College and received his bachelors degree in Math after 2 1/2 years.

Buck was a member of the Church of the Brethren McPherson, Kansas where he volunteered his time and talents.

Through the years, Buck worked for Chick Smith Hatchery and later Select Dairy, He then worked for the FBI and worked in the Finger Printing Department and after the war he worked the summers for the State Highway Commission and cleaned barrels for Farmland while he was continuing his education. He later taught school, teaching math, science, woodworking, history, and Buck coached all sports. He began his Insurance Career with Farmers Alliance Insurance Company as an Adjuster and retired as Assistant Vice President of the Claims Department.

Buck was a member and served as an officer for The Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters, served on the McPherson Planning Commission for 10 years, served on the McPherson Museum Board, was assistant Scout Master for Troop 133 for 15 years, served as district chairman for the Quivira Council, was a member of the American Legion Post 24, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, and the Mid America Wood Carvers Association. Through the years Buck enjoyed fishing, music, reading, basket weaving, genealogy, loved to watch TV, working in his garden and was most proud of coaching and playing basketball and football.

Russell Lee "Buck" Reinecker was united in marriage to Betty Louise Edwards on December 25, 1952 at the Church of the Brethren, McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home in McPherson.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, a son Randall "Randy" Reinecker.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Church of the Brethren, McPherson, Kansas.

The memorial service will be held at the Church of the Brethren, McPherson, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 with Reverend Chris Whitacre and Reverend Kathryn Whitacre officiating.

The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas with military honors presented by members of the V.F.W. Post 2715 and American Legion Post 24 both of McPherson.
