Obituary

Walter Duane Swartz, a resident of Abilene, KS passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene, KS at the age of 89. He was born on May 20, 1925 in Salina; the son of Walter Edward and Allie Lucy Edwards Swartz.

He attended school in Alta Visa, KS; graduating with the class of 1943. He drove a truck until he was drafted into the US Navy on May 13, 1944. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy on February 22, 1946. He returned to Alta Vista and worked in welding, carpentry, and house construction.

He married May Annabel Hooper on July 14, 1944. They moved to Abilene in 2009.

He was a member of the Chapman American Legion Post #240, and Wichita Masonic Lodge #99.

He is survived by -

Two Sons: David Lee Swartz, Abilene
Leland Ray Swartz (Diana), St. Louis MO
Four Grandchildren: Julian, Dylan, Jennifer and Christopher
Two Sisters-in-Law: Donna Sartz, Winfield KS
Twila Swartz, Olathe KS

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Stanley Duane Swartz; one sister Wanda Irene Swartz Dunn; and three brothers Clifford Swartz, Robert Swartz, and Lester Swartz.

Funeral Services will be held at the Londeen Funeral Chapel in Chapman, KS on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Lindsey Brummer will officiate.

Burial will be at the Alta Vista Cemetery with the Chapman American Legion Post #240 providing Military Honors.

The family will receive friends at the Londeen Funeral Chapel Friday evening, August 22, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. till 7:30 P.M.

The Londeen Funeral Chapel will be open at 1:00 P.M. Friday afternoon.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dickinson County or the Memorial of the Donors Choice.
