Melva Edith Kussman, the daughter of James and Edith (Smith) Howe, was born on June 30, 1924 in Beatrice, Nebraska. She passed away on August 10, 2014 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 1 month, and 11 days.
Melva attended school in various country schools in Pawnee County.
On November 3, 1942 she was united in marriage to William Warren Kussman at Marysville, Kansas and to this union was born 10 children.
She lived in the communities of Ruskin, Republic, Inavale, Guide Rock, Superior and Hardy, Nebraska; Republic, Kansas and Pawnee county as a child.
She raised chickens, and always had a large garden, and preserved her harvest by canning. She enjoyed making crafts, and truly loved the family gatherings, family pictures, she was a great collector and had pictures everywhere.
Melva was preceded in death by her parents, husband William; one daughter Edith “Edie” Erickson and two sons, Bill and Larry Kussman; three grandchildren, Edward, Carrie and Jamie Bridwell; three brothers, Elmer, Clifford and Leo Howe and one sister Wilma Purcell.
She is survived by her sons, Don Kussman of Hastings, Nebraska; David Kussman of Hardy, Nebraska; John (Jack) Kussman and wife Diane of Courtland, Kansas; Steve Kussman and wife Qiuhui of Franklin, Nebraska; Dennis Kussman and wife Chris of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; daughters, Ellen Larsen and husband Kerry of Edwards, Mississippi; and Connie Wilhelms of Hardy, Nebraska. 25 grandchildren, Willie Kussman and wife Jennefer of Republic, Kansas; Kaytlin Miller of Belleville, Kansas; Tammy Dytrych and husband Dave of Kearney, Nebraska; Jennifer Simpkins and husband Kevin of Superior, Nebraska; Jason Kussman and wife Shannon of Formoso, Kansas; Josh Kussman and wife Amber of Superior, Nebraska; Justine Hermsmeier of Fairbury, Nebraska; Jeremiah Kussman and wife Jennifer of Formoso, Kansas; Travis Kussman of Arnold, Nebraska; Heather Frasier and husband Eric of Superior, Nebraska; Kelsie Kussman of Belleville, Kansas; Desiree Cardenas and husband Mike of Bandera, Texas; Jonathon Kussman and wife Sadel of San Antonio, Texas; Christopher Kussman of Red Cloud, Nebraska; Christopher Bridwell and wife Melissa of Superior, Nebraska; Amelia (Amy) Erickson of Courtland, Kansas; Eric Hale of Vicksburg, Mississippi; Nathan Hale of Salt Lake City, Utah; Tom Wilhelms and wife Diying of Waunakee, Wisconsin; Larry Wilhelms and wife Chelsey of Superior, Nebraska; Corey Wilhelms and girlfriend Melissa (Moe) Zahller of Hastings, Nebraska; and Carrie Ahler and husband Andy of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 41 great-grandchildren, Jazalynn Imler, Rilee and Kohlee White, Whitney Lobato, Abby Lobato, Shayna Ginn, Tyler and Reagan Simpkins, Haley, Brice and Brent Kussman, Gracie Kussman, Stetson Rempe, Jaeten, Kassen and Kannon Ellwanger, Kaizer, Kiahlyn and Kiplee Kussman, Braden, Sherice and Carsyn Frasier, Dominic Nunez and Brock Cardenas, Elizabeth Kussman, Cody, Lynley and Clay Bridwell, Marshall, Dominique and Roscoe Baumbach, Ethan and Calcum Hale, Vivian and Kaitlyn Wilhelms, Neveah Blecha, Jaialynn Lueking, Brynlee Wilhelms, Kelsey Wilhelms, Edward and Addison Ahler.; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Drake Lobato and Gavin McKimmey. She is also survived by two sisters, Opal Todd and Doris Worm of Superior, Nebraska and one brother Ronnie of Beatrice, Nebraska along with a host of many other relatives and friends.
