Obituary

Irvin George Hodgson, 94, of McPherson, KS, passed away at 1:11 p.m., Monday, June 23rd, suddenly, at McPherson Hospital. Irvin was born in Little River, Kansas on July 25, 1919, a son of Nellie Blythe (Champe) and Charles Mortimer Hodgson.

Irvin attended a country school near Little River and graduated from Little River High School, Little River, Kansas. He then attended Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas where he was a member of the Acacia Fraternity.

Irvin was a member of Fry Chapel Church and later transferred to the Little River First United Methodist Church Little River, Kansas. Irvin was a farmer and stockman all his life on the Pioneer Stock Farm, which his grandfather homesteaded.

Irvin was a member of the Little River Lions Club, a member and leader of the Country Pals 4-H Club, served on the Boards of the Rockville School and Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, and was a member of a Promenades Square Dance Club in Hutchinson. He was very proud of the Conservation Award he received for his shelterbelt. Through the years Irvin enjoyed his way of life as a farmer and working with the soil and livestock, he loved reading, traveling with his wife and family, fishing, and even took organ lessons later in life.

Irvin George Hodgson was united in marriage to Helen Elizabeth Sidler on August 8, 1945 at Strong City, Kansas. Helen died on June 7, 2006.

Irvin is survived by his children, John Charles Hodgson and his wife Roberta, of Spokane, Washington and Rebecca Sue Dillon DVM and her husband Dwight, of Little River, Kansas; his daughter-in-law, Edith Hodgson of Little River, Kansas; his brother, Charles Hodgson, of San Antonio, Texas; his 7 grandchildren, Jon George Hodgson and wife Melissa, James Lohman "Jim" Hodgson and wife Shannon, Alyssa Sue Branca and her husband Doug, Laura Katherine Munro and her husband Bryan, Jessica Lynn Randall and her husband Matt, Katherine Jayne "Katie" Kirmer and her husband Austin, and Anna Paige Dillon. his 3 great-grandchildren with one on the way!, Claire Hodgson, and twins, George and Abigail Hodgson; nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Helen; a son George Allen Hodgson; a brother, Russell Hodgson, and sisters, Annabelle Tellejohn and Pat Woolfolk.

Friends are invited to call on Friday August 1, 2014 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Pioneer Stock Farm, 2760 Avenue M., Little River, Kansas.

The memorial service will be held at the Little River First United Methodist Church, Little River, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014 with Reverend Joshua Johnson officiating.

The final resting place will be at the Bean Cemetery Little River, Kansas.
