Gary W. Champlin, 78 years of age, of Tempe, Arizona, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Friendship Village in Tempe. He was born in Jamestown, Kansas on May 9, 1936 to R. Harold and Mildred “Nell” (Moffett) Champlin.

Gary graduated from Jamestown High School in 1954. He served his country in the United States Army in Germany from 1954 to 1956. After his time in the service, Gary attended and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University. He moved to Jupiter, Florida and worked 7 years for Pratt & Whitney. Gary then moved to Tempe, Arizona and retired after over 20 years with Allied Signal. Gary had his pilots license and enjoyed flying, having his own plane at one time. He also enjoyed music and was involved in a barbershop quartet and a 4 piece country western band.

Gary is survived by his brother, George Champlin and wife Nancy of Concordia, Kansas; 2 sisters, Carolyn Cordwell and Marcia Champlin, both of Jamestown, Kansas; nephews, Steve, Greg, and Curt; several great nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Charlie Kyler and wife Barbara of Mesa, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Elmer Cordwell.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, July 28, 2014 in the Jamestown United Methodist Church in Jamestown, Kansas with Pastor Randy Whitley officiating.

Private inurnment will be in the Jamestown Cemetery in Jamestown, Kansas.

There will be no visitation but a register book will be available to sign during business hours all week at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to the Jamestown United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
