Virginia Lee Kerschner-Hargraves, 87, passed away Friday, May 16th, at Hospice House of Topeka, Topeka, Ks. Virginia was born in Burns, Kansas on May 30, 1926, a daughter of Bertha Louise (Church) and Lafeyette "Lafe" Doty. Lafe died on Thanksgiving Day in 1928. Bertha later married John Francis Ryan and Virginia was adopted by John.

Virginia attended and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1944.

Through the years Virginia was a member of Brethren Church and later the First Christian Church both of McPherson, She was very involved in the church and served in many capacities through the years.

Virginia was a homemaker and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator.

Virginia was a member of P.E.O., National Benevolent Association and active member of Christian Womens Association.

Virginia Lee Kerschner was united in marriage to Donald Ray Kerschner on September 19, 1948 at the Brethren Church, McPherson, Kansas. He died on December 30, 1970. Virginia was united in marriage to Walter Allen Hargraves on January 14, 1973 at the First Christian Church, McPherson, Kansas. He died in 2007.

Terri Lee Grooms, of Wichita, Kansas
Carla Sue Lowry and husband Bob, of Topeka, Kansas
Step-children: Walter A. Hargraves, Jr. and wife Betty, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Paula Lin Lashley and husband Jim, of Clemons, North Carolina
Special niece: Bettie Hays, of Indianapolis, Indiana
7 grandchildren: Shane, Alex, and Erik Velazquez
Trevor, Emily Dossett
Jennifer Duck
Janelle Dugan
5 step-grandchildren: Bryan, Kevin, Ryan, Brittany,and Missy
13 great-grandchildren
Other relatives and a host of friends

Virginia was preceded in death by her mother Bertha, birth father Lafeyette Doty, adopted father John Francis Ryan, husbands, Donald Ray Kerschner and Walter A. Hargraves; Elizabeth Shearin.

Memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church, McPherson, Kansas at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014 with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating.

Following Virginias wishes, her body was willed to the University of Kansas Medical School and inurnment of cremated remains will be buried at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Colorado Christian Home or Midland Care and Hospice Home of Topeka, Kansas or McPherson First Christian Church and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas.
