Mary “Helen” Huffman, 88, passed away Friday, April 25th, at Village Manor in Abilene. She was born December 7, 1925 in Hutchinson, the daughter of Ansel H. and Ethel F. (Thompson) Flora.
Growing up in Nickerson, Sand Springs and Abilene, Helen attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1945.
Helen was a member of the Abilene First United Methodist Church.
On July 29, 1945, she was married to Gerald “Dean” Huffman at her parents farm near Abilene. Most all of their married life was spent in Abilene.
Helen and Dean co-owned and operated the Dairy Queen and Deans Carry Out on northwest 3rd street. It was one of the first Dairy Queens in Kansas. They retired in 1988. Dean preceded her in death January 26, 1991.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dale and Dwight Flora and a great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Grace Brooks.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, April 1st, at the Abilene First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Collins officiating.
Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 5:30 – 6:30 Wednesday, May 30th, at the Danner Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials in her name be made to the Abilene First United Methodist Church or Village Manor. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
