Larry E. Machen, age 79 of Concordia, died Tues., April 15, 2014 at Mt. Joseph Senior Community, Concordia. He was born on October 22, 1934. in Concordia, KS to Robert (Bob) E. & Lela M. (Hogue) Machen.

Larry graduated from Concordia High School attended Kansas University & later graduated from Beloit Vo-Tech as an LPN with his daughter, Linda in 1981.

Larry married Charlene L. Brown on Feb. 28, 1954 in Smith Center, KS.

Larry was an independent insurance salesman for Prudential Life Insurance. He later worked was a chemical dependency counselor for St. Joseph Hospital, Concordia and then in Texas for 17 years until his retirement when he and Charlene returned to Concordia.

Larry was a member of the Elks Club, where he served a term as President & a member of the Mens Golf Assoc. Larry enjoyed pheasant hunting, playing golf, KU basketball & his beloved Labrador retrievers.

He adored his many grandchildren & great grandchildren. His mechanical abilities and smooth even temper was legendary.

Son: Dr. Mike Machen & wife Sue, Quinter
Grandchildren: Jeremy Forshee & Dr. Melissa Forshee
Dr. Samantha, Benjamin, Edward & Alexandra Machen

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda K. Machen.

It was Larrys wished to be cremated and Memorial services will be held at 11 AM on Tues., April 22, 2014 with Jim Winter officiating at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.

Friends may sign the register book from 9 am to 9 pm with the family greeting friends from 6-8 pm, Monday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to the OConnor Animal Shelter, Concordia in care of the funeral home.
