Lyle Gene Goering, 85, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 12:32 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2014 while in the company of family members, at Pine Village, Moundridge. Lyle was born in Conway, Kansas on March 28, 1928, a son of Pete and Elma H. (Kaufman) Goering.
Lyle attended and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas. He attended and graduated from McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas. Received his Teaching Certificate from Bethel College, Newton, Kansas. Attended Emporia State College, Emporia, Kansas and Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, Kansas.
He was a charter member of First Mennonite Church McPherson, Kansas where he served his church in many capacities through the years.
Lyle honorably served in the National Guard as a Sgt 1st Class.
Lyle was a farmer all his life and he taught school at Moundridge for 5 years, McPherson for 4 years, Peaceful Prairie Country School for 1 year and Clearwater, Kansas for 1 year. He also coached in Moundridge and Clearwater and assisted in McPherson.
Lyle was a member of the Kansas Teacher Association and National Teachers Association; and was a charter member of the McPherson County Rural Water District # 4 and served for 14 years. Lyle enjoyed farming, teaching, and coaching basketball and football. He officiated at High School and College games. He also enjoyed working with the computer and being outdoors.
Lyle Gene Goering was united in marriage to Phyllis June Brown on September 15, 1950 at First United Methodist Church, McPherson, Kansas.

10 Grandchildren: Justin Bickford and wife Carrie
Bobbi Ireton and husband Matt
Jennifer Mizell and husband Weston
Julie Fiedler and husband Shane
Jesse Casebeer and fiancé Jacayla Williams
17 Great-grandchildren with one on the way

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Robert Goering; a granddaughter Heather Frans, and a son-in-law Dennis Frans.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 4 to 8p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas.
Funeral Service will be at the First Mennonite Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014 with Pastor Kathy Neufeld Dunn officiating.
The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas with military honors presented by members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 both of McPherson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Mennonite Church or Pine Village of Moundridge and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
