Obituary

Aira “Ya-Ya” Sanchez, 80, passed away Saturday, March 22nd, at her home. She was born March 15, 1934 in Beeville, Texas, the daughter of Toribio and Sofia (Garcia) Rocha.

Growing up in Beeville, Aira attended local schools, graduated from A.C. Jones High School,. Aira served in the U.S. Army (Womens Army Core) from April 1959 to March 1961 having taken her basic training at Ft. McClellan Alabama for eight weeks and eight weeks of clerical procedures and typing. The remainder of her time was spent at the U.S Army Personnel Center in Oakland, California being discharged with the good conduct medal and the rank of SP-4-E4 (T) after only two years.

On April 10, 1961, she was married to Linus Titus Sanchez. Most all their married life has been spent in Abilene.

She attended Central Kansas Area Vocational Technical School McPherson and Center School of Practical Nursing in McPherson to earn her Practical Nurse license and practiced Nursing for over 30 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ernest Rocha and a sister, Antonia Perez.

Aira enjoyed taking annual trips to Texas with her husband. She greatly anticipated returning to her hometown of Beeville to see her family. She also took great pleasure in vacationing with her family in Branson, Missouri, Orlando, Florida, The Black Hills of South Dakota, and Montana. Aira was a devoted Catholic, regularly attending Mass at St. Andrews Catholic Church. She especially loved baking. She often baked her famous pineapple upside down cake and enchiladas. Aira was extremely family orientated. Most of all, she treasured spending time with family and friends.

The family has chosen cremation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 29th, at the St. Andrews Catholic Church with Fr. Henry Baxa officiating.

Inurnment will follow in the Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery.

A parish rosary will be recited 5:00 P.M. Friday, March 28th, at the Danner Funeral Home with visitation following until 6:30 P.M.

The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be given to the Aira Sanchez Memorial Fund. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410
