Joan Crawford, 85, Salina, died February 25, 2014 in South Hutchinson. She was born August 1, 1928 in Minneapolis, KS., the daughter of Dr. Carl McLain Vermillion and Hilda Velma (Burkholder) Vermillion.
Joan married William Alfred “Jerry” Crawford on August 21, 1958 in Lawrence, he preceded her in death 1981.
Joan is survived by -
Son: Kyle Crawford and his wife Rhonda
Granddaughter: Taylor, all of Hutchinson
Sister: Wilda Lee Connell of Junction City
Joan spent her childhood in Minneapolis, Pratt, Tescott and Junction City. She graduated from Junction City High School in 1946 and the University of Kansas in 1950. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega. In addition to being a homemaker, Joan had a career as a Registered Occupational Therapist. She worked for the Veterans Administration, taught at the University of Kansas and worked for Salina USD #305. Joan worked with special needs children in Salina schools for nearly 28 years, retiring from Roosevelt-Lincoln in 1993.
Joan spent many hours enjoying sewing, needlepoint and woodworking, passions that she shared with family and friends.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina, Pastor Ron kite officiating.
Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery, Tescott, KS at a later date.
