Vernon Lee Beneda

Vernon Lee Beneda, 90 years of age, of Concordia, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Mount Joseph Senior Village in Concordia. He was born on November 30, 1923 near Wayne to Frank and Anna (Peterka) Beneda.
Vernon graduated from Agenda Rural High School in 1941. He was a farmer in the Wayne and Hollis communities until his retirement in 2000.
On December 24, 1946, he married Bernetha Ekstrom of Concordia, at the Methodist Church in Hollis, and to this union was born one daughter, Luanna Lee. Vernon and Bernetha were awarded the “Balanced Farming and Living Award” from Kansas State College. Vernon and his wife square danced since 1955 and have been members of each of the Concordia Clubs. They traveled to many Clubs over the area and got acquainted with many fine people, making many friends.
He loved to farm; and during harvest, he harvested the crops and Bernetha hauled the crops to town. Vernon worked part time for 17 years as a Compliance Supervisor for the Cloud County A.S.C. office, and 18 years on the NCK Electric Board of Directors, 13 of those years as the president of the board. He served 10 years as a volunteer fireman for the Hollis Fire Department #4, and nearly 40 years on the Lawrence Township and Hollis Cemetery Boards.

Daughter: Luanna Clark and husband Dave of Wichita
Grandson: Mike Clark and wife Lindsey
He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Danny Clark.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Mount Joseph Senior Village Chapel in Concordia with Rev. Joe Koechner officiating.
Interment will be in the Hollis Cemetery, Hollis.
Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM with family greeting friends from 7 to 8 PM Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia.
