Betty J. Lingle, 83, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 1:43 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2014 while in the company of family members, at McPherson Hospital, McPherson, Kansas. Betty was born in McPherson, Kansas on March 4, 1930, a daughter of George Thomas and Helen Vivian (Slosson) Carter.
Betty attended the Wickersham grade school, McPherson Junior High School and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1948. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church McPherson, Kansas where she served her church through the years in several capacities.
Betty was a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper for Harry Lane Supply, Farmland Industries, and Pyle Construction Company. Betty was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 24 and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2715 both of McPherson, Kansas. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing bridge, and swimming laps for over 30 years at the YMCA.
Betty Joan Carter was united in marriage to Cecil Rockhold on December 15, 1950 in Wichita, Kansas. Betty was united in marriage to Myron "Jack" Lingle on March 9, 1966 at McPherson, Kansas. Jack died on September 10, 2013.
She is survived by -
Children: Larry Lingle and his wife Lennea, of Hornby Island, Canada
Michael Lingle, of North Hollywood, California
Debra Lingle and her husband Steve Hoover, of Shawnee, Kansas
Toni Lingle, of Fresno, California
Sister: Mary Chinberg, of McPherson, Kansas
Three grandsons: Christopher Lingle
Two great-granddaughters: Roseanna Lingle
Many nieces and nephews
Other relatives and a host of friends
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Craig Allen Rockhold, her daughter Kay Rockhold; a brother, Willard Carter; and sisters, Thelmadean Newton, Nellie Luty and Marguerite Pitcher.
The memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014 with Interim - Pastor Terry Tareila officiating.
The final resting place will be at a later date at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.
