Harry  Keith  Hughes

Harry Keith Hughes, 94, Salina, died January 29, 2014. He was born, August 12, 1919, at home in the Shipton Community, rural Saline County. He was the oldest son of Keith & Beulah (Smith) Hughes.

Harry served our country and is a WWII Veteran. He served in the Army Air Corp and was stationed in the South Pacific. Harry graduated from Kansas State University in 1949. He retired at age 83 from UMB in 2004. He was a member of the VFW, KSU Alumni Association and Flywheels Museum. He had been involved with the Saline County Historical Society in the past.

Harry was known as a local historian. He has written and published several books and articles. Harry was also known for his quick wit and was the best story teller. His grandchildren loved his stories.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Leila, a daughter, Kathleen, and two sisters, Marie McDaniel and Ida Mae Gustafson.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Culver.

Visitation will be on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 from noon until 8:00 pm with the family receiving friends from 4 until 6 pm.

Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Salina or Cottonwood, Inc, Lawrence, KS.
