Harold F. Christner

Harold F. Christner, 78, of Herington, died Saturday, January 26, 2014, at the Salina Regional Health Center. He was born Tuesday, March 19, 1935, at Lost Springs, the son of Simon S. (Pete) and Gertrude I. (Steely) Christner.

Mr. Christner was an auto mechanic all his life. He first begin working at the Ford Dealership in Herington, then moved to California and worked at a Ford Dealership, and the last 10 years moved back to Herington. He graduated from Lost Springs High School with the class of 1953. After high school he served in the U.S. Army with the 5th Armored Division, in Frankfort, Germany.

He married Beverly Cheever on October 30, 1965, in Herington; and she preceded in death. He is also preceded in death by two (2) infant sons: Robert Harold in 1960, and Jeffery Grant in 1961; and his parents.

His daughter Shaunai Rochelle was born to Harold & Beverly; she survives of Herington. Also survived by his sister Ella Kresky of Salina; two (2) brothers: Leroy Christner of Herington, and Wendell Christner (wife-Debi) of McPherson; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am, Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating. Upon his wish, his body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center, Department of Anatomy to help in the education of our future medical providers; and later to be inurned in the Lost Springs Cemetery.

The family request memorials, in lieu of flowers, to the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University; and they may be sent in care of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS, 67449-3038.
