Donald Ray Arveson, 86, passed away at Chapman Valley Manor on Tuesday, November 5, 2013.

Don was born March 3, 1927 in Chapman, the son of Archie Leonard and Jessie Lieuwenna Jewel Arveson.

He attended grade school in Chapman, and obtained his GED while serving in the military.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II from August, 1943 til February 27, 1947. He joined the U.S. Army on January 18, 1948 and served in the Korean War. He retired from the military on July 31, 1964.

He was married to Nina Mae Reitz on May 17, 1966 in Ellsworth. He drove a truck for several companies, and he owned and operated a refuse service, then drove for Werner Construction in Hastings, NE until his retirement as a truck driver in 2000.

They had lived in Chapman since 1974, and moved into the Butterfield Trail House Apartments in 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife on September 15, 2013. He was a member of the Chapman American Legion Post #240 in Chapman.

Don is survived by:
Step-Daughters: Vicky Krupke and her husband Kenny of Talmage, KS, Merle Jean Creach-Brown of Chapman, KS, and becky Dalyene Creach-Kelley and her husband Roger of Chapman.
Children: Leonard W. Arveson, Edward Ray Arveson, Lenora Ann Arveson, and Brenda Lou Arveson
