Melvin (Bud) Rufener, 90, passed away Tuesday, October 29, in Abilene.

He was born January 1, 1923 in Abilene, the son of Fred and Belle (Knauss) Rufener.

Melvin attended Purdy & Dayton grade schools, graduating from Hope High School. He was a farmer and was employed by KP&L for 27 years, retiring in 1988.

On April 21, 1944, he married Stella Maxine Jacobson. All their married life has been spent in Dickinson County. She preceded him in death September 16, 2013. Melvin was also preceded in death by 2 brothers Elwin and Delmar and a sister, Esta Sheets.

He was a member of the New Basel United Church of Christ and the Elk’s Lodge.

Survived by: many nieces, nephews and a host of friends

Melvin had chosen cremation.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 8th, at the New Basel United Church of Christ with Pastor Eric Graefe officiating.

Inurnment will follow in the New Basel Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions in his name be given to the New Basel United Church of Christ or the Elsie Brooks Cancer Fund. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
