Verda Greene, age 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia.
She was born on a farm in rural Wamego, KS on March 30, 1926 to George (Butch) & Rose (Orsborn) Knipp.
Verda graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1944, she then attended nursing school at St. Marys Hospital in Manhattan.
She married Larry Greene on Aug. 6, 1947 in Westmoreland after he returned home from the war. Larry preceded her on Dec. 13, 2008.
Verda was a surgical nurse and worked in various hospitals before moving to Concordia, where she worked at St. Josephs Hospital for over 28 years until her retirement in 1988.
Verda was a member of The Baptist Church and a host of womens groups within the church. She also was an avid card player and member of several card clubs; enjoyed quilting & gardening.
Verda is survived by:
Daughters: Carol Fahring & hus. Marvin, Concordia & Marcia Greene, Salina
Grandson: Jason Fahring & wife Michelle, Attica
Great grandchildren: Emelia, Caleb & Addison Fahring, Attica
Sister: Jeannie Krouse, Onaga
Special (Kansas) Mother & Grandmother to Quentin & Christine Smith & their children, Abraham, Benjamin & Joshua Smith & their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry & her parents.
It was Verdas wishes to be cremated and Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am, Fri., Nov. 1, 2013 at Concordia Wesleyan Church with Rev. David Redmond & Pastor Bob Burns officiating.
Burial of the cremains will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.
Friends may sign the register book from 9 am to 5 pm, Thurs, Oct. 31, 2013 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials to the Cloud County Community College Nursing Department for Nursing Scholarships or the Cloud County Museum in care of the funeral home.
