Merle A. Rowan Jr., 72, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Friday, September 20, 2013. He was born March 28, 1941 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Merle A. Rowan Sr. and Esther (Serriere) Rowan Hill Allen.

Merle was a meat cutter and market manager for Safeway and Foodbarn for many years until their closing in Salina. After which he retired and took up the hobby of pouring concrete statuary and birdbaths.

He and Linda loved fishing and gardening. They planned to do a lot of traveling which was not to be.

He was preceded in death by both parents Merle Rowan Sr. and Esther Allen, grandson Christopher Rowan, stepmom Hazel Rowan and step dad Charles R. Hill.

He is survived by -

Five grandchildren: Raylene (Phil) Thull of El Paso, Texas
Matthew, Sara, Breanna Finch

Three brothers: Mike Rowan of Cranford, New Jersey
Frank (Kay) Hill of Harriman, Tennessee
Charles (Emily) Hill of El Dorado, Kansas
Two sisters: Sharon Soto of Wichita, Kansas
Paulette (Don) Holzhauser of Bel Aire, Kansas
Sister-in-law: JoAnn Bowling (Karl) Stone
Brother-in-law: Ray Bowling, both of Blackwell, Oklahoma

Cremation was chosen. There will be no visitation.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2013 at Highland Cemetery, New Cambria, Kansas.

A reception will follow in Parish Hall at Peace Lutheran Church, New Cambria, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.
