Obituary

Funeral services for Viola M. Hill Niemoller-Black, age 96, of Abilene, will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Abilene with Reverend John Collins officiating.

Mrs. Black passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Village Manor in Abilene. She was born March 23, 1917 near Hope, the daughter of Hugh and Susie (Wingerd) Hill.

She graduated from Hope High School and then graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in elementary education in 1941.
Viola started her teaching career in one room schools and then taught in Carey Creek, Hope, Navarre, Rural Center, and Enterprise.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Abilene, the Christian Womens, Dickinson County Historical Society, past member of the Dickinson County EHU, and the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed embroidering, quilting, gardening, reading, and above all else spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

On June 15, 1941 she married Walter Niemoller on the Hugh Hill farm near Hope, Kansas. He passed away in 1988. She then married Lloyd Black on June 30, 2000 in Chapman, Kansas. He passed away in 2005.

Viola is survived by -
Daughter: Joyce and husband John Porter of Branson, Missouri
Son: Gary and his wife Linda Vincent of Abilene
Six grandchildren: Chantay Porter

She was preceded in death by her husbands and her parents.

Violas final resting place will be in the Pilgrim Home Cemetery north of Hope.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
