Roy  C.  Wilson

Roy C. Wilson, age 87, died Sat., July 27, 2013 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, KS. He was born on July 18, 1926 in Scandia, KS to William & Esther (Anderson) Wilson.

Roy was raised in the Scandia area and joined the US Army while in high school on Oct. 20, 1944 and served in the south Pacific during WWII until his discharge on Nov. 28, 1946. He received his diploma from Scandia High School, 47 years later and was very proud of that accomplishment.

Roy married Myra J. Goodwin on Nov. 9, 1947 in Salina, KS. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 2004.

Roy worked for Holsum & later Rainbo Bread, Federated Foods & Boogaarts & Concordia Broadcasting Co. (KNCK) before he owned and operated Roys Shoe Repair business until retirement. He was active in civic clubs and a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW Post #588; American Legion Post #76; former Elks & Moose Lodge member. Roy was very involved with scouting for over 30 years with his son, grandsons & great grandson; serving in several leadership capacities including Scoutmaster, Dist. Commissioner & Chairman. Roy was also proud that his son and grandsons were Eagle Scouts. He was awarded the Silver Beaver, the highest adult honor, by the Boy Scouts.

Roy is survived by -
Daughter: Jeanne Johnson (Thomas), Concordia
- Their children: Justin, Brooke & Ashlea
Son: Curtis Wilson (Bonita), Overbrook, KS
- Their children: Brandy & Nathan
- Curtis children: Jessica & Shawn
12 great grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra; parents & a brother, Winton.

Funeral services are 10 am, Wed., July 31, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, Concordia with Rev. Tessa Zehring officiating.

Burial with Military Honors conducted by VFW Post #588 & American Legion Post #76 will follow the services at Union Cemetery, Wayne.

Visitation will be from 10 am to 9 pm with family greeting friends from 6-8 pm, Tues. at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to the Roy Wilson Memorial Fund to be designated later by the family in care of the funeral home.
